Eko is a contraction of the Yoruba word Ereko, meaning a farming village or dependency (Eri Oko). All these different Ekos scattered across Yorubaland were established independently without knowledge about any of the others but all happen to have the same Eko element because of their common denominator which is the Yoruba language and culture which they all belong to.
