President Bola Tinubu had a meeting with the leadership of Chevron Corporation, headed by Mr. Clay Neff, at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.
The news was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a post on social media.
According to Onanuga, the meeting was attended by Clay Neff, President of Chevron International Exploration and Production, as well as Rick Kennedy, the outgoing Chairman and CEO of Chevron Nigeria, and his successor, Jim Swartz.
Chevron, which has been operating in Nigeria for the past 60 years, is a major supplier of natural gas to the domestic market. One of its key initiatives is the development of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), a 700km pipeline that supplies gas to Benin, Togo, and Ghana in partnership with ECOWAS.
During the meeting, Chevron expressed interest in collaborating with Nigeria to develop its oil and gas resources, taking advantage of the country’s abundant human capacity.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude for Chevron’s visit and its social investments in the communities where it operates. He also acknowledged the positive impact of Chevron’s gas projects on Nigeria and climate change.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and Chevron, stating that the country is eager for investment and growth.
In December 2023, Chevron Nigeria Limited reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a mutually beneficial and long-term relationship with Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy.
