Nigeria’s mining industry made history on Monday as the country’s representative, Minister Dale Alake, was unanimously elected as the first chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.
The announcement was made during the 30th edition of Investing in Africa Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa. The newly appointed chairman, Mr Dele Alake, emphasized the importance of African, leaders uniting to maximize the benefits of the continent’s mineral resources.
Speaking at the signing of the resolution, the chairman stressed the need for African leaders to speak with one voice on value addition in the mining sector. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that Africa’s mineral resources are utilized effectively.
This initiative follows the rallying of African Ministers of Solid Minerals/Mineral Resources on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During the forum, Nigeria and Uganda championed the importance of value addition in the mining sector to boost African economies.
The appointment of Nigeria’s representative as the pioneer chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group is a significant milestone for the country and the continent as a whole.
