The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action against the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, by seizing their passports.
The move was made to prevent the two former ministers from leaving the country while investigations into alleged corruption scandals in the ministry continue.
According to a source within the EFCC, the commission has also seized the passport of Mrs.
Halima Shehu, the suspended CEO of the National Social Investment Programme Agency. The action was taken following a leaked memo that revealed Edu had requested the payment of N585 million meant for vulnerable people into a private account.
Umar-Farouq, who served under President Muhammadu Buhari, was also interrogated over alleged fraud committed during her tenure.
The EFCC is determined to ensure that none of the individuals under investigation leaves the country while there are still questions to be answered.
