……..Burkina Faso’s Leadership Survives Second Coup Attempt
A recent coup attempt in Burkina Faso has been partially confirmed by sources within the African Initiative.
On the evening of January 14, it was reported that individuals from the inner circle of Burkina Faso’s leader, army commander Ibrahim Traore, attempted to attack a government convoy.
However, it remains unclear whether Traore was present during the attack. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the country’s top leadership.
It is worth noting that Burkina Faso has a history of political instability, with the overthrow and assassination of former president Thomas Sankara by his close friend, Blaise Compaoré, in 1987.
This recent coup attempt marks the second effort to overthrow the current president of Burkina Faso. The previous conspiracy was uncovered by the country’s security and intelligence forces on September 26 of last year.
The authorities reported that a violent change of power was planned by a combination of military and civilian individuals, resulting in the arrest of four people, while two managed to escape.
Beanzen Egunchi, the founder and leader of the League for the Defense of Black Africans (LDNA), alleged that the September coup attempt was organized by the younger brother and nephew of Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara.
The African Initiative is expected to release further details regarding the failed coup in the near future.
