Tinubu Allegedly Approved N3 Billion for Verification of Buhari’s Social Register, According to Gbajabiamila’s Memo to Suspended Minister, Betta Edu
A memo from the Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila, to the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Betta Edu, has revealed that The President , Bola Tinubu, approved N3 billion for the verification of the National Social Register under the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The National Social Register was created to facilitate cash transfers and other social investment programs.
Following Tinubu’s approval, the suspended minister disbursed the N3 billion to various firms for the verification process. However, this release has sparked controversy and is currently being investigated by presidential investigators and anti-graft agencies.
The memo, dated September 18 and titled “CONVEYANCE OF APPROVAL;
RE: APPEAL TO USE N3,000,000,000.00 (THREE BILLION NAIRA) FROM THE COVID-19 PALLIATIVE FUND FOR VERIFICATION OF THE NATIONAL SOCIAL REGISTER,” was sent from Gbajabiamila’s office.
SaharaReporters previously reported that a company owned by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, received a total of N438.1 million from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for consultancy services related to the contract.
This company, New Planet Project Limited, was one of the many consultants awarded contracts from the N3 billion given out by the suspended minister for the National Social Register verification.
Other beneficiaries of the N3 billion contract include Fabunmi Olanipekun & Co.
