The ancient city of Kano is currently experiencing heightened tension as the two Emirs involved in a longstanding dispute, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, have announced their intentions to lead Jumaat prayers at the Palace Central Mosque.
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who has been reinstated and resides in the Palace, is slated to lead the two rakat Friday prayers, a responsibility he traditionally holds as the Amir of the City. A statement released by Danburan Kano, Munir Sanusi Bayero, outlined the schedule for the reinstated Emir’s attendance at the Mosque to lead the prayers.
In a conflicting move, a separate statement from an aide of the deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, invited residents to join him at the Emir’s Palace Friday Mosque for the Juma’at prayer, with a planned movement to the Mosque set for 12.30 pm.
With tensions escalating, Kano residents are urged to attend and listen to the sermon delivered by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, while the police are yet to issue any official statements regarding the situation.
